Liposuction is one of the most requested body contouring procedures at Soul Place Surgery. It removes localised deposits of fat that resist diet and exercise — but understanding what it can and cannot achieve is essential before deciding if it is right for you.

What liposuction does

Liposuction uses a thin cannula inserted through small incisions to break up and remove fat cells from targeted areas. Common treatment areas include the abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms, back, and under the chin. The removed fat cells do not return — but the remaining cells can still expand if significant weight is gained.

What liposuction does not do

Liposuction is a contouring procedure, not a weight loss treatment. It is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle, and it will not significantly reduce the number on the scale. Patients who are close to their target weight and have good skin elasticity tend to see the most satisfying results.

The ideal candidate

You are likely a good candidate for liposuction if you are within roughly 25–30 percent of your ideal body weight, have firm and elastic skin, are in good overall health, have realistic expectations, and have specific areas of stubborn fat that have not responded to diet and exercise.

Recovery

Most patients return to light activity within one to two weeks and resume normal exercise by six weeks. Compression garments are worn for four to six weeks to support healing and optimise results. Final results are typically visible at three to six months once swelling has fully resolved.
