Breast Reconstruction in Abuja

Breast reconstruction restores breast shape and appearance following mastectomy or breast surgery, using implant-based or autologous tissue techniques tailored to each patient’s anatomy and goals.

About This Procedure

Breast reconstruction rebuilds the breast mound following mastectomy or lumpectomy for breast cancer, congenital absence, or traumatic loss. Reconstruction can be implant-based, autologous (using your own tissue), or a combination of both.

Soulplace Surgery offers a compassionate, personalised approach to reconstruction — working closely with your oncology team to plan surgery at the right time, whether immediately at mastectomy or as a delayed procedure.

Breast reconstruction rebuilds the breast mound following mastectomy or significant breast surgery. It is a deeply personal procedure — one that helps many patients feel whole again after the physical and emotional impact of breast cancer treatment. At SoulPlace Surgery, reconstruction is approached with full understanding of what it means, not simply as a surgical outcome. Reconstruction can be performed immediately at the time of mastectomy or as a delayed procedure after cancer treatment is fully completed. Two broad methods are available: implant-based reconstruction, using tissue expanders and silicone implants, and autologous (flap) reconstruction, which uses the patient's own tissue from the back, abdomen, or thighs to build a natural, warm breast mound. The choice between methods depends on your body type, cancer treatment plan, general health, and personal priorities. Dr. Gana works closely with your oncology team to ensure the reconstruction plan is fully aligned with your treatment pathway. Nipple reconstruction, where desired, is typically completed as a secondary stage 3–6 months after the initial procedure.

Safety & Scarring

Risks, Safety & What to Expect

Reconstruction risks include implant-related complications, flap loss, infection, scarring, and asymmetry. The choice of technique and timing is carefully weighed against your overall health status and cancer treatment plan.

Have Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I have reconstruction after mastectomy?

Reconstruction can be performed at the same time as mastectomy (immediate) or after cancer treatment is fully completed (delayed). The best timing depends on your cancer treatment plan and personal priorities. Both approaches deliver excellent outcomes.

What is the difference between implant and flap reconstruction?

Implant-based reconstruction uses silicone or saline implants to rebuild the breast mound. Flap reconstruction uses your own tissue from the back, abdomen, or thighs and generally produces a more natural feel — but involves longer surgery and recovery.

Will the reconstructed breast feel natural?

The reconstructed breast will look and feel close to natural, though sensation in the skin may differ from the original breast. Most patients report that the psychological and aesthetic benefits far outweigh this difference.

Can I have nipple reconstruction?

Yes. Nipple and areola reconstruction is typically a secondary stage performed 3–6 months after the breast mound is fully healed. 3D tattooing is also an option and produces very natural-looking results.

Does reconstruction affect cancer detection?

A reconstructed breast requires different imaging techniques, but reconstruction does not prevent cancer surveillance. Your oncologist will advise on ongoing monitoring protocols after reconstruction.
