What is a breast reduction?
Breast reduction surgery (reduction mammaplasty) removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to achieve a breast size more proportionate to your body. Beyond aesthetics, the procedure provides lasting relief from the physical discomfort — neck pain, back pain, and skin irritation — that large breasts frequently cause.
At Soulplace Surgery, your surgeon customises the incision pattern and tissue removal to preserve nipple sensation and breastfeeding ability wherever possible, while delivering a natural, lifted result.
Breast reduction surgery removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to achieve a breast size that is proportionate, comfortable, and easier to live with. For many women, large breasts cause daily discomfort — chronic neck, shoulder, and back pain; skin irritation beneath the breast fold; difficulty exercising; and challenges finding well-fitting clothing. Reduction surgery addresses all of these issues simultaneously.
Dr. Gana performs breast reduction using techniques that produce a natural, proportionate result while prioritising scar placement in locations that are easily concealed by underwear. The procedure also reshapes and lifts the breast, so results look aesthetically superior — not simply smaller.
The surgery typically takes 2–3 hours under general anaesthesia. Most patients describe the recovery as more comfortable than expected, with significant pain resolving within the first week. The physical relief from reduced breast weight is often reported within days of surgery.

Risks & safety
Breast reduction is a safe, well-established procedure. Potential risks include scarring, changes in nipple or breast sensation, asymmetry, delayed wound healing, and rare complications such as infection or haematoma. Our team will discuss your individual risk profile during your consultation.
Frequently asked questions
Will breast reduction affect my ability to breastfeed?
Some techniques preserve the milk ducts and breastfeeding capability, but this cannot be guaranteed. If future breastfeeding is important to you, discuss this with your surgeon before the procedure so the most appropriate technique is selected.
Where will the scars be after breast reduction?
Scars are typically positioned around the areola, vertically down to the breast fold, and along the breast fold (anchor or lollipop pattern depending on technique). They fade over 12–24 months with proper care.
Will my breast size stay the same after surgery?
Results are long-lasting when you maintain a stable weight. Significant weight gain, pregnancy, or further hormonal changes can alter breast size over time.
Can breast reduction be covered by medical insurance?
In cases where the procedure is medically necessary — documented chronic pain, skin irritation, or postural problems — partial insurance coverage may be available. Discuss this with your insurer and bring medical documentation to your consultation.
How much tissue will be removed?
The amount removed depends on your starting size, your goals, and what is safe and proportionate for your frame. Your surgeon will recommend a target size at consultation based on your anatomy and lifestyle.
