Diabetes and Cardiac Care

About This Condition

Our Treatment Approach

Our Diabetes & Cardiac Care service provides integrated management of diabetes mellitus (Type 1, Type 2, and gestational) alongside cardiovascular conditions that frequently co-exist. Poorly controlled blood sugar accelerates arterial disease, raising the risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney damage — making combined, coordinated care essential.

Our Family Medicine physicians work alongside endocrinologists and cardiologists to develop personalised plans covering lifestyle modification, pharmacotherapy, blood pressure management, and long-term complication screening.

Common Symptoms

  • Excessive thirst and frequent urination (diabetes)
  • Unexplained fatigue and slow wound healing
  • Chest pain, tightness, or pressure (cardiac)
  • Shortness of breath on exertion
  • Blurred vision or numbness in the hands and feet
  • High blood pressure readings (≥130/80 mmHg)
  • Elevated blood glucose readings (fasting ≥7 mmol/L)

Treatment is customised to your diagnostic findings and risk profile. For diabetes, this typically includes lifestyle counselling, oral hypoglycaemic agents or insulin as required, and regular HbA1c monitoring. Cardiac care focuses on blood pressure control, cholesterol management (statins where indicated), antiplatelet therapy, and structured cardiovascular exercise plans.

We use continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology and digital health tools to support remote monitoring between clinic visits, ensuring tighter glycaemic control.
