The Brazilian Butt Lift — commonly known as the BBL — is one of the most in-demand body contouring procedures in the world, and interest across West Africa continues to grow. It uses your own fat to enhance the shape and projection of the buttocks, delivering results that look and feel natural because the transferred tissue is your own.

How the BBL works

The procedure combines liposuction with fat transfer. Fat is removed from donor areas — typically the abdomen, flanks, back, or thighs — processed, and then carefully injected into the buttocks to add volume, improve projection, and refine the overall silhouette. The result is a more defined waist-to-hip ratio alongside enhanced buttock shape.

Safety — what you need to know

The BBL has historically carried a higher complication rate than many other procedures, primarily due to the risk of fat embolism when fat is injected into deep muscle tissue. At Soul Place Surgery, our surgeons strictly follow current evidence-based guidelines — injecting only into the subcutaneous layer, never into or beneath the gluteal muscle. This approach significantly reduces risk without compromising results.

Ideal candidates

The best candidates for a BBL are patients who have sufficient donor fat available, are within a healthy weight range, are non-smokers, and have realistic expectations. Very slim patients may not have enough fat for a meaningful transfer and may be better served by implants or a combined approach.

Recovery

Patients must avoid sitting or lying directly on the buttocks for two to four weeks to protect the transferred fat during the initial take period. A specially designed BBL cushion is used for sitting. Most transferred fat settles permanently at around three months, with final results visible at six months.
